A National Guard member and a suspect were both wounded in a late-night shooting near the 400 block of 8th Street SE in Washington, police said Monday. Interim Police Chief Jeffery W. Carroll said Guard members intervened around 11 p.m. Sunday to break up a fight when one person involved began firing a weapon. The Guard member was struck in the leg, and three Guard members returned fire after the suspect pointed the gun at them, Carroll said. The suspect was hit in the abdomen and later arrested. Police said both people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
