Nasaruddin Umar Enters Consideration for PBNU Chair
His past as Katib Aam adds weight to the bid ahead of NU's Munas-Konbes in East Java on 20-23 June.
PBNU Secretary Saifullah Yusuf has named Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar as one of the figures worthy of consideration for the PBNU chairmanship ahead of the NU congress. In Kediri, East Java, on Tuesday, Gus Ipul said several names have been discussed in public, including Nasaruddin, who once served as Katib Aam of PBNU. He linked that possibility to PBNU’s leadership pattern over the past 40 years: Abdurrahman Wahid, Said Aqil Siradj and Yahya Cholil Staquf all previously served as Katib Aam before leading PBNU. Gus Ipul also stressed that the choice of chairman rests entirely with the congress participants. The remarks came after a coordination meeting to prepare for the 2026 NU Munas and Konbes at Pondok Pesantren Al Falah Ploso in Kediri.
