A previously unknown AI model called Ox Alpha is drawing developer attention after appearing for free on OpenRouter under the label “stealth model.” The model offers a roughly 1 million-token context window and can process text, image and video inputs, helping spur rapid testing by users. OpenCode said Ox Alpha is available with near-unlimited usage for a week. The release has set off speculation over who built it, with some online guesses pointing to China, where companies including Moonshot AI and Alibaba have recently released more capable models. Stripe CEO Patrick Collison called the model “very impressive” in a post on X, while developers have been sharing reviews on YouTube and Reddit.
