Musk poured more than $200 million into GOP midterm effort

What's new: FEC filings show $158 million went to the Senate Leadership Fund, with Texas emerging as a central target.

Elon Musk gave more than $200 million in the quarter ending Sept. 30 to groups backing Republicans ahead of the US midterm elections, according to Federal Election Commission filings reviewed by the BBC. The biggest share, $158 million, went to the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC that supports Republican Senate candidates in competitive races. Musk also gave more than $80 million to America PAC, which he founded during the 2024 election, and another $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC. The filings underscore how central Texas has become to Musk’s political spending as he shifts more of his business empire, including SpaceX, Tesla and X, to the state.
