Muhammadiyah proposes suspending MBG for review
The call comes amid corruption allegations, food-poisoning cases and a Constitutional Court challenge to MBG funding.
PP Muhammadiyah chairman Busyro Muqoddas has proposed suspending the Makan Bergizi Gratis program for a full review. In Jakarta on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Busyro said the government’s corrections to the arrangement of beneficiaries and its plan to use corporate social responsibility funds for MBG kitchens had not addressed the root problems. He said the main issues were weak transparency and planning, which have led President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship program to a series of problems, from alleged corruption to food-poisoning cases. Busyro stressed that Muhammadiyah does not oppose the goal of providing nutritious meals for students, but is criticizing the governance of the program. He also challenged the use of education funds for MBG at the Constitutional Court. On the other hand, Kepala Badan Komunikasi Pemerintah Muhammad Qodari said MBG cannot be stopped because it is one of Prabowo’s campaign promises.
