MSCI keeps Indonesia's emerging market status

New: MSCI's review flagged information flow as a weak point, even as investor access and market infrastructure stayed solid.

MSCI kept Indonesia's status as an emerging market in its latest review. David Sutyanto, chairman of the Indonesian Securities Analysts Association, said the result should serve as momentum to strengthen the domestic capital market amid competition for global investment flows. He said a number of key indicators still show a solid foundation, including investor requirements, foreign ownership limits and room, freedom of capital flows, account opening, market regulation, custodial systems, trading, and the availability of investment instruments. MSCI, however, still flagged information flow as an issue. David said the problem is not a structural weakness, but a reminder for regulators, the exchange, issuers, and analysts to improve disclosure, communication consistency, and access to data for domestic and foreign investors.
