Drag race car strikes spectators in Kotamobagu, 8 dead
A total of 17 people were hurt; 9 were treated at RS Monompia and RSUD Kotamobagu after the car swerved near the finish line.
A car entered in the Tidar Drag Race Championship 2026 struck spectators in Kota Kotamobagu, Sulawesi Utara, killing eight people. Nine others were injured and treated, bringing the total number of victims to 17. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon, 9 August, on Jalan AP Mokoginta, Kecamatan Kotamobagu Timur. According to Kotamobagu police public relations acting head AKP Joko Setiyono, the car driven by Tian Ngantung of Tim Mc Joe was preparing to compete in the FFA or Free For All class. As it approached the circuit finish point, the car developed a problem, then swerved to the left side of the track, hit a barrier fence, and struck residents standing behind the fence on the left side of the finish area. The victims were taken to RS Monompia and RSUD Kotamobagu in Pobundayan.
