Missing Auburn student, 20, found dead near Kyoto after search

What's new: Volunteers found James "Weston" Higginbotham in a mountainous area, and authorities have not released a cause of death.

James "Weston" Higginbotham, a 20-year-old Auburn University student who went missing during a family trip to Japan, was found dead in a mountainous area outside Kyoto after a weeklong search, his mother said Saturday. Higginbotham disappeared May 29 after separating from his family and was last believed to be near Yamashina Station, east of Kyoto. His mother said a volunteer search-and-rescue group located his body. Japanese investigators had said they believed he likely left his family intentionally, but were worried about his safety because he did not speak Japanese and might not know the area. Authorities have not released his cause of death.
