Loan Demand for Rp5,5 Juta Rejected, Man Burns Parents' House in Pati
Police charged MI under Article 308 of the New Criminal Code, which carries a prison term of up to nine years.
A man identified as MI (27) was arrested by Sukolilo Police after allegedly setting fire to his parents' house in Kedungwinong village, Sukolilo district, Pati regency, Central Java, on Saturday (13/6) at about 10:40 p.m. WIB. Police said the incident began when MI asked his father, M (61), for Rp5,5 Juta to migrate to Sulawesi, but the request was rejected, triggering an argument. The fire is believed to have been lit with a lighter near a gas stove in the kitchen, then spread to woven bamboo as the flames grew. No one was killed, but the kitchen and furniture were damaged, causing losses of about Rp100 juta. Police said MI has been named a suspect and charged under Article 308 of the New Criminal Code. Tribunnews also reported that MI previously served two years in prison in a stabbing case.
