Mike Collins wins Georgia GOP runoff, setting up Ossoff race
Why it matters: The November contest could help decide Senate control in a battleground state.
Republican Rep. Mike Collins won Georgia’s U.S. Senate primary runoff on Tuesday, advancing to a November showdown with Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in one of the country’s most closely watched races. Collins defeated former football coach Derek Dooley, who had the backing of term-limited Gov. Brian Kemp. President Donald Trump threw his support behind Collins late in the runoff, posting an endorsement after early voting had ended. The race now shifts to a nationally significant general election in a purple state as both parties fight for control of the Senate.
