Mexico military downs drone near South Korea World Cup base

What's new: The aircraft was detected over the team's Guadalajara camp before tactics work ahead of the Group A match with Mexico.

Mexican military personnel brought down an unregistered drone near South Korea's World Cup training base in Guadalajara before the team's Group A match against co-host Mexico. South Korea coach Hong Myung-bo said the drone appeared during Tuesday's training session, shortly before tactical preparations, and called the incident unfortunate but not seriously disruptive. A federal official told the AP the drone was detected and neutralized as part of a broader World Cup security operation. Mexican authorities have deployed about 100,000 military and police personnel under Plan Kukulkán, with anti-drone measures in host cities including Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
