Meta raises $15 billion in bond sale to finance AI buildout

What's new: The five-part offering followed a ratings outlook cut and came as Meta projected up to $145 billion in annual capital spending.

Meta Platforms raised $15 billion in a five-part U.S. bond sale Tuesday as it leans more heavily on debt markets to fund a rapid expansion in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The Facebook parent is pouring money into data centers, computing capacity, AI models and related services. The sale included $3.25 billion of notes due in 2031 with a 5.85% coupon and another $3.25 billion due in 2033 at 6.25%, according to a regulatory filing. The financing came days after S&P Global Ratings revised Meta's outlook to negative from stable, citing uncertainty tied to heavy capital spending and negative free cash flow. Meta has said full-year capital expenditures will total $135 billion to $145 billion.
