Mercedes EV fire chars interior near Woodlands carpark
What's new: No one was hurt, and Singapore civil defense investigators are still working to determine what sparked the blaze.
A Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle caught fire near the entrance of a multistory carpark at Block 548 Woodlands Drive 44 in Singapore's Woodlands district on July 21, leaving the cabin badly burned but causing no injuries. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted at about 10:10 a.m. and firefighters extinguished the interior fire with one water jet. The driver told Shin Min Daily News she smelled something burning as she drove out of the carpark, pulled over and saw smoke from inside the vehicle. She and nearby security guards tried to use fire extinguishers but could not stop the flames. The car, which she said was less than three years old, was towed away around 12:15 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.
