Mendikti: URI is being prepared for strategic posts, not to run campuses
The government is still reviewing a plan for 10 URI campuses, while Komisi X DPR says it has not discussed the legal basis or funding.
Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto said Universitas Republik Indonesia will not oversee all universities in Indonesia. He said the ministry's role will remain unchanged, while URI is being prepared as an affirmative program to develop human resources for strategic positions, including assignments in the 3T regions and national priority programs. The government is also still studying the mechanism for building 10 URI campuses. A day earlier, President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Donny Ermawan Taufanto as URI Governor and Yos Sunitiyoso as his deputy. At the same time, Komisi X DPR deputy chairman Lalu Hadrian Irfani said his commission had never received discussions on URI's legal basis, duties, functions or source of funding.
