Megawati and Ramos-Horta gather 10 Nobel laureates in Jakarta
The Megawati Institute forum also brought in four Turing Award winners after the Science for Development Summit 2026 in Dili.
Megawati Soekarnoputri and Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta held a dialogue with a delegation of global scientists at the Megawati Institute office in Jakarta on Friday. The meeting brought together 10 Nobel Prize winners, one representative of a Nobel Prize organization and four Turing Award winners who had previously attended the Science for Development Summit 2026 in Dili on Aug. 24-25. Megawati Institute Executive Director Hilmar Farid said the forum was designed as a cross-disciplinary discussion on using science and technology to address humanitarian, environmental, economic and political challenges. Megawati also highlighted climate change, food, health and the rapid advance of AI as issues that require global cooperation.
