Megawati opens exhibition of 47 artists for Bung Karno's 125th
The “Mata Hati Soekarno” exhibition in Bantul will be open to the public for a month and features cross-generational interpretations.
Megawati Soekarnoputri opened the “Mata Hati Soekarno” art exhibition at Le Gareca Space in Bantul, Yogyakarta, on Saturday, coinciding with the 125th anniversary of Bung Karno’s birth. The exhibition features 47 artists from different generations who interpret the historical record, ideas and personal side of the first president of RI through paintings, graphic works and drawings. At the opening, Megawati was accompanied by GKR Hemas and toured several works, including “Ku Antar ke Seberang” by Agus Noor, “Supermemar,” and “Restu.” Event initiator Butet Kartaredjasa said the exhibition grew out of a desire to inherit Soekarno’s “fire,” not just his ashes. Curator Suwarno Wisetrotomo said Bung Karno remains relevant for renewed reading, even though many of the artists come from the 1990s generation. The exhibition is open to the public for the next month.
