MBG Pushes Chicken, Egg Prices Up Again as Farmers Strain
Farm-gate broiler prices rose 4.11% in a week, but feed and DOC costs also climbed, keeping margins tight.
Chicken and egg prices rose again after the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) program resumed following the school holiday. The National Food Agency said the average farm-gate price of broiler chicken as of July 14 reached Rp21,736 per kilogram, up 4.11% from a week earlier. The national average price of chicken eggs rose 0.66% to Rp22,644 per kilogram. In Cimahi, traders at Pasar Atas Baru reported chicken meat prices rising from Rp25,000-Rp26,000 to Rp35,000-Rp36,000 per kilogram, while eggs increased from Rp22,000 to Rp26,000 per kilogram. But farmers are not fully relieved. GOPAN said the production cost of chicken remains Rp20,000-Rp22,000 per kilogram, while DOC prices have risen from about Rp4,000 to Rp6,500 per bird and feed costs have increased by about Rp1,000 per kilogram.
