Maros-Pangkep Geopark retains UNESCO Green Card
The result clears the 11th UNESCO Global Geoparks Session revalidation and helps preserve the karst area's sustainable tourism appeal in South Sulawesi.
Maros-Pangkep Geopark in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, retained its UNESCO Green Card status after passing revalidation at the 11th session of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council on Saturday (7/11). The status recognizes the continuity of area management, preservation of geological heritage, and development of sustainable tourism. The area is known for its karst landscape, which is an important part of Indonesia's geological wealth. The recognition also underscores that conservation efforts in Maros-Pangkep focus not only on protecting nature, but also on historical, cultural and biodiversity values. The success is expected to encourage managers and local communities to continue developing the area while expanding local economic benefits.
