Manchester City beat Brighton 4-3 on penalties after 2-2 draw

What's next: City advanced to the Carabao Cup quarterfinals and will face Bradford City after twice coming from behind.

Manchester City reached the Carabao Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday, beating Brighton & Hove Albion 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw. Brighton led twice through Malick Yalcouyé and Georginio Rutter, but City answered with goals from Mateo Kovacic and Vitor Reis. Goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli proved decisive in the shootout, stopping efforts from Yasin Ayari and Lewis Dunk to send City through. Jason Steele saved Kovacic's penalty for Brighton, but it was not enough. The result set up a quarterfinal against Bradford City, while City and Brighton are due to meet again in the league on Saturday.
