Man United sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton in £70 million deal
What's new: The five-year move lifts United's summer midfield spending to about £148 million, with an option for a sixth season.
Manchester United completed the signing of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba in a deal worth up to £70 million, adding a third central midfield recruit of the summer. The 22-year-old Cameroon international joined on a five-year contract with an option for another year after United agreed an initial £65 million fee plus £5 million in add-ons and a sell-on clause. Baleba arrives after United also brought in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while Casemiro left and Manuel Ugarte suffered a serious knee injury. He made 31 Premier League appearances last season as Brighton finished eighth and qualified for the Conference League. Baleba is currently sidelined with an ankle injury picked up during Brighton's preseason camp in Austria.
