Malaysian tourist tied to China 'smelly' video pursues defamation case

What's new: She and her lawyers warned that people spreading personal details or threats against her family could face legal action.

A Malaysian tourist linked to a viral TikTok mocking people in China over body odor is pursuing legal action against people she says defamed her after the backlash. The woman, identified in a lawyer's statement as Nur Asyiqin binti Dalil and known on TikTok as @ekyn.wong, said proceedings were underway against parties who made false accusations, insults or shared private information. Her lawyer, Tetuan Amirul Shahidda & Co, said she, her family and associates had received criticism, threats and harassment. The original video, later deleted, showed women in a queue for a bus in China making disparaging remarks in Malay about locals and, in another clip, about an e-hailing driver.
