Malaysia moves to curb Waze use over Israeli data security fears

What's new: Anwar urged users to switch to local app Tuju as cyber officials reviewed MyDigital ID and AI-related threats.

Malaysia is moving to limit use of navigation app Waze after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim raised data security concerns tied to the app's Israeli origins. Anwar said Waze operates under Israeli law and could expose government information and users' personal data, according to a Facebook post after a National Cyber Security Committee meeting. CNBC Indonesia reported the restriction applies to Malaysia's civil servants. Anwar also urged Malaysians to consider Tuju, an app developed by the Malaysian Highway Authority. The cyber meeting separately reviewed security around MyDigital ID, Malaysia's digital identity platform, and what Anwar described as emerging threats from autonomous artificial intelligence.
