Malaysia court clears Syed Saddiq in RM1 million graft case
What's new: The ruling ends a six-year legal fight after a lower court had sentenced the Muar lawmaker to seven years in prison.
Malaysia’s Federal Court upheld Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman’s acquittal on charges tied to funds from Armada, the youth wing of his former party Bersatu, ending the former minister’s case. The top court ruled 2-1 that the Court of Appeal was right to throw out his 2023 convictions for criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering. Syed Saddiq, the Muar member of Parliament and founder of MUDA, had faced a seven-year prison term, two strokes of the cane and a RM10 million fine after the High Court found him guilty. The case stemmed from allegations involving more than RM1 million and other transfers linked to Armada funds.
