Maine Democrats pick Troy Jackson for Senate race against Collins

What's new: Jackson won the party convention 566-5 after Graham Platner quit the race amid sexual assault allegations he denies.

Maine Democrats chose former state Senate President Troy Jackson as their nominee to challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins in November, resetting one of the country's most closely watched Senate races. Jackson won Saturday's nominating convention in Bangor by a 566-5 delegate vote over Saundra Pelletier after other rivals dropped out and backed him. The switch came after primary winner Graham Platner suspended his campaign following a former girlfriend's sexual assault allegation, which he has denied. The race is expected to help shape control of the Senate, with Collins the only Republican incumbent seeking reelection in a state Donald Trump lost in 2024.
