Unmul students disrupt Mugiyanto lecture in Samarinda
Protesters carried posters of missing 1998 activists and pressed for unresolved past human rights abuses.
Dozens of Universitas Mulawarman students interrupted a public lecture by Deputy Minister of Human Rights Mugiyanto at the Gelanggang Olahraga 27 September Unmul in Samarinda on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. The action, organized by the Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Keluarga Mahasiswa Unmul, rejected Mugiyanto's presence while unfurling a banner reading “Usir Mugiyanto, Pengkhianat Reformasi” and posters of missing activists, including Wiji Thukul and Petrus Bima Anugrah. Protest coordinator Heththan Hersya Putra said the students were protesting the unresolved past human rights abuses. According to Tempo, campus security personnel briefly asked the students to leave, but the protest continued until the event ended. At the event, which was attended by the Kalimantan Timur regional office of the Ministry of Human Rights, Mugiyanto still delivered remarks on human rights as the spirit of development.
