Javan lutung kept by Bondowoso resident evacuated by Kemenhut

Momon is now being rehabilitated at Jember Mini Zoo after the keeper voluntarily surrendered the protected animal.

The Ministry of Forestry, through BBKSDA Jawa Timur, evacuated a Javan lutung named Momon from a resident's home in Sukosari Lor village, Sukosari district, Bondowoso, East Java. The protected animal was voluntarily handed over after officers carried out a persuasive approach with Bhabinkamtibmas, Babinsa, the village administration, and the Bondowoso Livestock and Fisheries Office. Momon was found by a veterinary paramedic during a livestock census while tied up. According to the keeper, the lutung was brought home about three to four years ago, when it was still a baby, from the Selapak coffee plantation area near Sempol village, Ijen district. Momon is now undergoing an initial physical examination, behavioral observation, and rehabilitation at Jember Mini Zoo before further conservation steps are decided.
