Lumajang on 2-month disaster alert over Semeru rain lahars

Effective 2 November 2026 to 1 January 2027, the alert aims to brace for floods, landslides and rain-triggered lahars.

The Lumajang regency government has set a two-month hydrometeorological disaster alert status, from 2 November 2026 to 1 January 2027, to prepare for floods, landslides and rain-triggered lahars from Mount Semeru during the seasonal transition. The impact was already visible in Supiturang Village, Pronojiwo District, on Saturday (7/11), when residents helped students cross a rain-lahar stream by carrying them. An Antara photo also showed workers using heavy equipment to repair the lahar channel in the village. The Semeru slopes are still facing the threat of lahar flows, especially when rain falls in upstream areas, so daily activities remain at risk during the rainy season.
