LPS urges Islamic students, clerics to save at banks

LPS stressed that deposits in conventional and Islamic banks are guaranteed if they meet deposit insurance requirements.

The Deposit Insurance Corporation is strengthening financial literacy in Islamic boarding schools by urging students, boarding school caretakers and religious leaders to understand the importance of saving in the banking system. LPS Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Farid Azhar Nasution outlined the effort at the Community Empowerment Assembly at MAN 4 Jombang, East Java, on Saturday. According to Farid, financial literacy is not just about introducing products, but about building the ability to make financial decisions that are right, safe and responsible. LPS also is encouraging Islamic boarding schools to understand the benefits of saving at conventional banks and Islamic banks, as well as the requirements for customer deposits to receive insurance protection. He said Islamic boarding schools and religious leaders have a strategic role because they are close to the community and are often a reference point for people around them.
