Louisiana DUI suspect caught after alligator attack in swamp escape
What's new: Deputies used a drone to find the 40-year-old after he surfaced with non-life-threatening arm injuries.
A Louisiana man suspected of impaired driving was arrested after fleeing deputies into a swamp, where an alligator attacked him before officers tracked him down with a drone. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office said Victor Rivas, 40, first drew attention after reports of a reckless Toyota that hit a concrete barrier and had a blown tire. Deputies stopped the vehicle and began a DUI investigation after seeing signs of impairment, but Rivas ran. He later jumped into another section of swamp as deputies tried to detain him, and body-camera video showed an alligator pursuing and biting him in the water. Rivas escaped with injuries to both arms, was taken to a hospital, and then booked on charges including operating a vehicle while impaired and resisting an officer.
