Lockheed Martin buys Ultra Maritime for $3.45 billion

Why it matters: The deal expands Lockheed’s anti-submarine business as allied navies boost spending on sonar, sonobuoys and torpedo defenses.

Lockheed Martin agreed to buy naval defense company Ultra Maritime for $3.45 billion, adding a major anti-submarine warfare supplier to its undersea systems business. Ultra, owned by private equity firm Advent International through Cobham Ultra, makes sonobuoys, sonar systems and torpedo countermeasures used across air, surface and undersea operations. The company supplies navies in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Lockheed said Ultra will join its Rotary and Mission Systems unit after the deal closes. The acquisition is Lockheed’s fourth transaction of 2026 if completed and its biggest this year, strengthening a portfolio that already includes submarine integration work and guidance components for the US Mk48 torpedo.
