LLAJ law revision adds ojol, app-based transport

The government backed a special chapter for motorbike taxis, parcel and food delivery, with safety standards and penalties.

The government has added rules for app-based transportation, including online motorcycle taxis, to the revision of the Road Traffic and Transport Law. Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the change is being discussed through the Third Amendment Bill to Law No. 22/2009 on LLAJ. The government also approved a proposal from the House of Representatives to add Chapter XIII A, which regulates special-hire transport and limited motorcycle transport for passenger service, parcel delivery and food delivery. The Transportation Ministry is preparing rules to ensure app-based two-wheel and four-wheel services meet safety and public-interest requirements, including vehicle standards, driver equipment, training, vehicle condition monitoring and penalties for violators.
