Lightning strike off Singapore beach kills 24-year-old paddler

A 24-year-old man died after lightning struck the water while he was kayaking and paddleboarding off Pasir Ris Beach in Singapore on July 5, police said. Six other people in the group, ages 13 to 54, were taken to hospitals conscious after the afternoon incident near 131 Pasir Ris Road. The dead man was identified by local media as Mikhail Benyamin, a freelance sea sports instructor who had gone out with family and friends on a leisure outing. His company said the group was within a designated paddling area and returning to shore when the strike hit. Police said no foul play is suspected and investigations are ongoing.
