Long holiday lifts Kawah Sikidang visits past 10,000

Banjarnegara tourism officials say weekday visits stay below 5,000, but arrivals have risen steadily from June through August.

Tourists packed Kawah Sikidang in the Dieng Plateau area of Banjarnegara, Central Java, during the long holiday for the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. The Banjarnegara Tourism and Culture Office said visits to Dieng on weekends can reach 10,000 people or more, far above weekdays, when the daily average is below 5,000. Eko Sri Wurjani Juniasih, head of the Institutional, Human Resources and Marketing Division at Dinparbud Banjarnegara, said such surges are common during long weekends and school holidays because visitors to Dieng are mostly family groups. She added that since June, visits have continued to rise, with about 50.000-60.000 people recorded that month.
