Leopard kills 7 livestock in Batang, then is sedated
BKSDA Jateng suspects the 10-year-old male left its habitat during the dry season; it weighs 25 kilograms and has a leg injury.
A leopard entered a residential area in Dukuh Ngasinan, Desa Gunungsari, Kecamatan Bawang, Kabupaten Batang, Jawa Tengah, and killed at least seven livestock animals before it was evacuated. The animal was spotted at the home of a resident named Suryono on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at about 05:30 WIB. When officers tried to approach, the animal became aggressive, so the area was secured first. A joint team from BKSDA Jateng, Taman Safari Beach Batang, Damkar, BPBD Kabupaten Batang, and Muspika Bawang later fired a tranquilizer dart and placed it in a cage at about 11:30 WIB. BKSDA Jateng head Dyah Sulistyasari said the 10-year-old male leopard was likely driven out of its habitat in the Gunung Prau forest by the dry season; it was thin, weighed 25 kilograms, and had a leg injury.
