Lee Jae Myung nominates Han Seong-sook as new PM
If confirmed by parliament, Han would become South Korea's second female prime minister in history.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung nominated Han Seong-sook as the new prime minister, replacing Kim Min-seok, who is set to step down. According to a senior presidential official, Han currently serves as minister of small and medium enterprises. If she clears a confirmation hearing in the National Assembly, she would become the second woman to hold the prime minister's post in South Korea after Han Myeong-sook in 2006-2007. The change comes in the first year of Lee's administration, which took office on 4 June 2025. Yonhap reported that the prime minister's office has already formed a team to help Han prepare for the confirmation hearing. Kim is said to be running as a candidate to lead the ruling Democratic Party.
