Lawyer for House aide accuses Rep. Jimmy Gomez of sexual assault
What's new: the allegation escalates an existing House Ethics probe after Gomez described the encounter as consensual.
Rep. Jimmy Gomez is facing a sexual assault allegation from a woman interviewed in the House Ethics Committee’s investigation into his relationship with a congressional aide. Gomez, a California Democrat, had acknowledged what he called mistakes outside his marriage and described the encounter as consensual. On Wednesday, attorneys for one of the women involved rejected that account, saying their client experienced sexual harassment and assault and that the conduct was not consensual. The lawyers said they expect the ethics panel to reach the same conclusion. Gomez’s office did not immediately respond to the new accusation.
