Lavrov: Russia's Ukraine stance unchanged ahead of possible talks

Moscow says Kyiv's call to keep striking Russian targets complicates preparations for the next trilateral negotiations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow's position in the Ukraine war has not changed since the start of the invasion or since the last trilateral meeting. After the G20 foreign ministers' meeting, Lavrov said Russia will not accept Ukraine as a threat to the security interests of the Russian Federation. He also rejected what he described as discrimination against Russians and Russian speakers in Ukraine, and accused Kyiv of promoting Nazi ideology and practices. Lavrov said comments by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about keeping up attacks on Russian targets do not help preparations for new talks. Both Russia and Ukraine have said they are willing to hold another round of trilateral talks with the United States, with Abu Dhabi cited as a possible host in November.
