Kazan summit adopts new ASEAN-Russia declaration
The two sides also agreed on a comprehensive 2026-2030 action plan covering maritime cooperation, energy, trade and security.
ASEAN and Russia adopted a series of new documents at the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan, Russia, on 17-18 June, marking 35 years of ties between the two sides. The documents included the Kazan Declaration, a joint statement on cultural cooperation, and the ASEAN-Russia Comprehensive Plan of Action 2026-2030. The Kazan Declaration reviewed 35 years of progress in relations and set directions for future cooperation in maritime affairs, trade and investment, energy, connectivity, security, education, and culture. The summit was chaired by President Vladimir Putin. At the meeting, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong urged cooperation in areas of overlapping interest, including disaster response, anti-drug efforts, education, and cultural exchanges.
