KPK suspects PT Djarum excise scheme has run since 2010
Investigators are reviewing old records and calculating possible state losses in excise taxes that could reach trillions of rupiah.
KPK suspects excise governance irregularities involving PT Djarum have been under way since 2010. KPK acting Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein confirmed the suspected time frame, while KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said investigators are examining efforts to arrange payments so excise duties did not match the proper amount. Searches were carried out on 28 October at the Kudus Customs and Excise office and PT Djarum's office in Kudus, then continued a day later at six affiliated companies and on 30 October at the Semarang Customs and Excise office and the Central Java-DIY Customs and Excise Regional Office. KPK seized documents and electronic evidence and is still probing suspicions of payments to Customs and Excise officials. State losses in the excise sector are estimated to reach trillions of rupiah.
