KPK questions Silmy Karim in probe of WNA stay permits

New: KPK has named eight suspects, detained them and seized evidence worth about Rp17,5 miliar from an early June sting.

KPK on Friday (19/6) questioned former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections for 2025-2026, Silmy Karim, as a suspect in an alleged extortion case involving immigration document processing for foreign nationals. The questioning focused on evidence of alleged unlawful acts and other receipts believed to be gratuities. Silmy left the KPK's Red and White Building at about 11:41 WIB wearing a detention vest and did not answer reporters' questions. KPK has named eight suspects in the case involving WNA stay permits within the Directorate General of Immigration for 2022-2026. The case stemmed from a sting operation on 2-3 June 2026. From the operation, investigators secured evidence they believe is tied to corruption worth a total of about Rp17,5 miliar, including cars, motorcycles, bicycles, bank account balances, crypto assets and foreign currency.
