KPK Conducts Bust on Lombok Barat Regent, 19 Held
KPK seized hundreds of millions of rupiah and suspects bribery tied to projects in Pemkab Lombok Barat; legal status due in 1x24 hours.
KPK arrested Lombok Barat Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini in an overnight sting operation on Monday (20/7), along with 19 people in total. KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said seven people were taken to Jakarta at night, while investigators seized hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash and several documents. KPK suspects Ahmad Zaini received money tied to the implementation of a number of projects in the Lombok Barat regency government in Nusa Tenggara Barat. After being taken from his official residence in the morning, he was then brought to the KPK Red and White Building for further questioning. KPK has 1x24 jam from the arrest to determine the legal status of those ensnared. Following the sting, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian urged other regional leaders to maintain integrity and avoid corruption.
