Korlantas: Driver's license remains valid for 5 years, lifetime claim is false
Police also warned that links promoting lifetime driver's license registration on TikTok, WhatsApp and Instagram may steal personal data.
Korlantas Polri said the claim circulating on social media that the Surat Izin Mengemudi is valid for life is not true. The driver's license remains valid for five years from the date of issuance and can be renewed, in line with Article 85 paragraph (2) of Law Number 22 of 2009 on Traffic and Road Transport. Korlantas Polri Director of Registration and Identification Brigjen I Made Agus Prasatya said the renewal is needed to reassess a driver's competence and physical and psychological fitness. Korlantas also urged the public to be wary of links for lifetime driver's license registration or offers of free SIM that circulate on TikTok, WhatsApp and Instagram, saying they could be a form of digital fraud and personal data theft.
