Komisi X pushes MBG budget out of education starting 2027
The Constitutional Court set a 2028 deadline, but DPR wants the split accelerated so education funds refocus on teachers and schools.
Deputy Chair of Komisi X DPR MY Esti Wijayati urged the government to begin separating the budget for the Makan Bergizi Gratis program from the education line in the APBN in 2027. The push came after the Mahkamah Konstitusi ruled that MBG funds may no longer be included in the operational definition of education delivery because that conflicts with the constitution’s mandate to allocate at least 20 percent of state spending for education. The court gave a deadline for adjustment no later than APBN 2028, but also said the separation should ideally begin in APBN 2027. From Istana, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the government respects the ruling and will study it with DPR because it affects budget drafting.
