Komisi II proposes central government pay PPPK teachers
The proposal follows complaints from regions about tight finances, and calls are growing for higher 2027 regional transfers.
Bahtra Banong, deputy chairman of Komisi II DPR RI, proposed that the central government cover the salaries of teachers with Pegawai Pemerintah dengan Perjanjian Kerja status in the regions. He said the move is needed to ease the fiscal burden on local governments, many of which have said they struggle to pay PPPK teachers. Bahtra made the proposal at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, adding that a similar scheme should also be considered for PPPK health workers. He also said several regions hope the 2027 transfer to the regions budget will be increased so their fiscal capacity is stronger. At the same time, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti said the status of honorary teachers in 2027 is still being discussed across ministries, while non-ASN teachers can continue working until the end of 2026.
