Komisi I DPR approves Garibaldi carrier grant from Italy
The 54 million euro vessel is due on Sept. 20, after 100 TNI AL personnel have trained in Italy.
Komisi I DPR approved the acceptance of the Giuseppe Garibaldi aircraft carrier grant from the Government of Italy to the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia at a meeting in Jakarta on Monday, July 20, 2026. The grant is valued at 54.022.426,67 euro, or about Rp1.1 trillion. DPR approval is required for receiving foreign grants. Komisi I also urged TNI to prepare a solid operational doctrine and ensure military technology transfer and the involvement of the national defense industry. According to a Ministry of Defense presentation, Giuseppe Garibaldi will become Indonesia's first aircraft carrier and is scheduled to arrive on September 20, 2026. TNI AL has sent 100 personnel to Italy for crew training, while a base in Teluk Ratai, Lampung, is being prepared, with construction 76 percent complete.
