KMP Putri Yasmin Catches Fire on Bali-Lombok Route, Evacuation Underway
SAR broadcast MAYDAY three times and deployed fast boats and a helicopter as officials still tally passengers and crew.
KMP Putri Yasmin caught fire while sailing from Padangbai Port, Bali, to Lembar Port, West Lombok, on Wednesday morning. The incident was reported around 04:15-04:20 WITA in waters near Sekotong, West Lombok. A joint SAR team is still evacuating passengers and crew, with the priority of bringing everyone aboard to safety. Mataram SAR Office deployed KN 220 Mataram, RIB, and RBB, while Denpasar SAR Office assisted with KN SAR Arjuna and a SGi Air Bali helicopter. Separately, VTS Benoa and SROP Padangbai broadcast the MAYDAY distress call three times to seek help from vessels in the area. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and the number of passengers and crew is still being verified.
