KMP Aceh Hebat 2 blast in Banda Aceh injures 14-15
Most of the injured were maritime cadets on training runs, and police are still probing the cause of the engine-room blast.
KMP Aceh Hebat 2 exploded while docked at Ulee Lheue Port in Banda Aceh on Friday at about 11:55 WIB. The blast, followed by a fire in the engine room, left 14 to 15 people with burn injuries, and all victims were evacuated to RSUD dr Zainoel Abidin. CNN Indonesia, citing Captain KN Kresna Supriyadi, reported about 14 victims, most of them Politeknik Pelayaran cadets training aboard the ship. An Antara photo published by Republika put the number at 15, including 14 Malahayati Aceh shipping school cadets and one crew member. Aceh police Inafis officers later examined the scene, while the exact cause of the blast remains under investigation.
