KM Nurul Salsa sinks in Selayar, 1 dead and 24 missing

KM Nurul Salsa sank in waters west of Pulau Polassi, Kabupaten Kepulauan Selayar, South Sulawesi, after suffering engine trouble while sailing from Pulau Jampea to Pelabuhan Benteng Selayar. Basarnas Makassar reported one person dead, 49 people safe, and 24 others still being searched for. Initial reports said there were about 46 to 50 passengers, but the latest verification showed the total number of passengers and crew reached 74 people. Some of the victims were evacuated by KM Harapan Kita on Thursday morning, while six others were rescued by a fishing boat to Pulau Polassi. The search operation involves Basarnas, TNI AL, KRI Marlin 877, Polair, BPBD Selayar, the harbor master, and local fishermen.
