Pejompongan unrest after DPR rally damages CCTV, 65 held
Pemprov DKI will report the vandalism of public facilities, while police seized sharp weapons, bottles and Molotov cocktails.
Unrest after a demonstration at the DPR building on Thursday night spread to Pejompongan, Central Jakarta, with several CCTV cameras vandalized and a police post set on fire. Polda Metro Jaya said 65 people were arrested on suspicion of exploiting the protest as police dispersed the crowd at around 20.00 WIB. Polda Metro Jaya public relations chief Budi Hermanto said officers also seized evidence including sharp weapons, bottles and Molotov cocktails. Separately, Marulina Dewi, head of Diskominfotik DKI Jakarta, said Pemprov DKI would report the CCTV vandalism to law enforcement authorities. She stressed that the surveillance cameras are used for crime prevention, public service monitoring and traffic management.
