Kennedy opens NIH vaccine-injury clinic amid court fight over shots
What's new: HHS also moved to pay doctors for VAERS reports and require vaccine adverse events in electronic records.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has launched a new federal push to study reported vaccine injuries, centered on an NIH clinic that opened Oct. 5 to treat and evaluate patients who say they developed health problems after vaccination. HHS said the effort also includes a proposal from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to reimburse physicians for filing suspected injury reports to VAERS, a CDC update to that reporting system, and a requirement that electronic health records capture vaccine-related adverse events. The moves deepen Kennedy's overhaul of US immunization policy as he faces legal challenges over changes to childhood vaccine recommendations and public health officials warn about declining vaccination rates and a measles resurgence.
